In this recording of the authors' meeting on the topic “Tariffs – pros and cons” webinar held on May 8, 2025, Zhiwei Chen, Counsel at Crowell & Moring LLP, presents an in-depth analysis of China's trade countermeasures in response to US tariffs.

He outlines the five rounds of retaliatory tariffs, culminating in a staggering 125% tariff on all US origin goods, as well as a broad array of non-tariff actions including export controls on critical minerals, new additions to the Unreliable Entity List, and intensified antitrust investigations targeting US companies.

Zhiwei Chen also shares how companies are adapting to the new trade environemnt.

The session concludes with recommendations, emphasizing the importance of due diligence, proactive monitoring, and awareness of China’s expanding enforcement of its Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law.
