What strategies may EU traders use to overcome trade barriers?
2022-05-31

Recently, the European Commission (EC) terminated the examination procedure concerning obstacles to trade applied by Mexico (see Commission implementing decision (EU) 2022/161, 3.2.2022). This was because the dispute regarding Tequila export licenses was resolved in favour of EU exports by domestic courts in Mexico. The example reveals that exporters can cope with trade barriers in several ways: in courts, and through complaints to the EC.

The article introduces basic information on automatic and non-automatic licensing and provides practical examples of some non-transparent licensing regimes worldwide that must be considered when choosing new export markets.

Prekybos apsaugos priemonės: ką turi žinoti importuotojai ir eksportuotojai
2021-09-04

Mapping of Customs Nomenclature with food safety standards in India: a far-sighted strategy to streamline clearance of food products
2020-10-31

Several government and private stakeholders are involved in the clearance of imported food products. To ensure a smooth process, close coordination and sharing of information backed by robust information technology (IT) processes are needed. With this in mind, India’s food safety agency has mapped Customs Nomenclature codes with Food Safety and Standards Regulations, a move which has enabled further integration of IT systems and better risk management.

Importer Exporter Code (IEC) in India
2020-07-18

This text was inspired by the article “What you need to know about the EORI number and national differences in EU countries?” by Jovita Dobrovalskienė in the 2-nd issue of the CCRM journal. In India, there is the Importer Exporter Code (IEC) used for similar purposes as the EORI code in the EU. Its use is even more extensive – there are various export promotion schemes and other situations where the use of the IEC is mandatory.
