General Interpretative Rules (GIR)
These are the 6 rules that are applied when setting up a 6-character commodity code. The rules are laid down in the global Harmonized System and transposed into the EU Combined Nomenclature.
It is important to note that Rules 1-4 must be applied sequentially.
Rules 1 to 5 are used to determine the 4 digits of the commodity code (heading), Rule 6 - to determine the digits 5 and 6 (subheading).
