Open Customs Blockchain: The missing piece to unlocking the broad application of distributed ledger technology for Customs?
2023-06-16

Digitalization has simplified Customs clearance in many areas, especially in the declaration of imports and exports. However, various data discontinuities and queries unnecessarily delay cross-border process flows. A group of major logistics companies, software providers and researchers is driving an initiative which could change this. Called the “Open Customs Blockchain”, it focuses on developing and applying blockchain technology for the exchange of key Customs data in foreign trade.

Protecting importers’ information while improving Customs controls
2022-07-01

Customs administrations and trade operators both want to reduce the complexity of compiling and exchanging data. Išmintingųjų patarimai: kokia muitinės ateitis?
2022-04-28

Europos Sąjunga, siekdama proveržio muitinės srityje ir nestandartinių sprendimų jam pasiekti, subūrė išmintingųjų grupę („wise persons group“), kuriai iškelti tikslai pasisakyti 4 pagrindiniais klausimais – dėl elektroninės prekybos, dėl rizikos valdymo, dėl veiksmingo vis didesnio nefinansinių užduočių valdymo bei dėl ateities muitinės valdymo struktūros. Grupę sudarė 12 verslo, mokslo bei valstybės institucijų atstovų. Jų darbo rezultatas – 2022 m. kovo 31 d. paskelbta ataskaita, kurioje apžvelgiama tiek dabartinė muitinės situacija, tiek sisteminių problemų ištakos, tiek 10 pasiūlymų esminiam proveržiui padaryti. Verslui ši ateities muitinės vizija aktuali kaip indikatorius, kur muitinė gali judėti toliau, atitinkamai priderinant savo veiklą.

Blockchain document transfer: understanding the technology and its uses
2022-03-01

According to research, a single container shipment can generate up to 200 communications, and the administrative cost of processing the accompanying documentation is estimated to be 15‑20% of the overall cost of transporting the goods. It is therefore essential to find easier, more efficient ways of transferring data and documents, and verifying and archiving documentation.

2021-03-11

Singapore is spearheading the implementation of TradeTrust, which is a framework comprised of a set of globally accepted standards to facilitate the digitalization of documents used in international trade and logistics and their interoperability, and also a set of software components that connect to a blockchain backbone IT infrastructure. Economic operators and public and private institutions using TradeTrust will create a global network of trusted partners for the exchange and verification of digital trade documentation across borders. The ultimate objective is to enable a more seamless flow of goods between trading nations and reduce the inefficiencies and complexities generated by the use of paper-based documentation, making cross-border trade simpler and safer.
